Lebo Shai Occupational Therapist

Lebo Shai

Occupational Therapist

Lebo graduated from the University of Cape Town in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science (Hon) in Occupational Therapy. She completed a year of community service at a regional hospital where she discovered practical applications of occupational therapy including child development, burns, hand therapy, palliative care and traumatic brain injury.

Lebo moved on to work as the sole occupational therapist at the first government-owned halfway house in South Africa. The role included the provision of individualised and group treatment for clients, development of OT policies and frameworks and management of the facility’s Occupational Therapy unit.

The main focus was on the reintegration of clients back to their communities, families, employment and/or school by assisting clients to develop life and work skills to lead sober, crime-free and independent lives. Her passion for the treatment of substance use disorders and related mental health disorders developed at this time.

In 2022 Lebo successfully completed the Universal Treatment Curriculum (UTC) and is an International Certified Addiction Professional. While working full time at a halfway house, she also ran a private practice, providing treatment for clients with educational issues and assisted with placing clients in school programs to best fit their needs.

Lebo recently moved to Australia where she has now gained experience in neurodiverse conditions in paediatrics in the NDIS space. Her treatment focus is on emotional regulation, independent engagement in activities of daily living, and social and play skills. Her particular interest in mental health led her to The Do Network where she enjoys treating complex mental health disorders to promote each client’s participation and fulfilment in everyday life.

Lebo is servicing new and current clients in the Logan and South Brisbane areas.
