Social Worker Services

Available state-wide and in North Brisbane, South Brisbane, Logan, Gold Coast, Lockyer Valley and Toowoomba.

For people in need social workers are often the first point of contact. We help individuals and families to cope with challenges such as poverty, addiction, offending behaviours, mental health, and relationship problems including child welfare and family and domestic violence.

Our social workers work with schools, hospitals, and government agencies to ensure access for people who need help. We also offer Circle of Security sessions to cultivate healthier parenting and help children thrive.

What is Social Work?

Working in partnership, social workers at The Do Network help individuals and their families to achieve beneficial goals.

When supporting clients social workers maintain a dual focus. They assist with the improvement of the client’s wellbeing. They also identify and address any external issues (known as system or structural issues) impacting on the wellbeing or functioning of the client and their support networks.

As part of a multi-disciplinary team social workers engage with other therapists, professionals, and organisations to encourage the client in achieving their objectives. Informal supports and family members may be included in this process.

The Do Network adheres to the definition of social work endorsed by the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) and International Association of School of Social Work (IASSW):

Social work is a practice-based profession and an academic discipline that promotes social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people. Principles of social justice, human rights, collective responsibility and respect for diversities are central to social work. Underpinned by theories of social work, social sciences, humanities and indigenous knowledge, social work engages people and structures to address life challenges and enhance wellbeing. (July 2014)

Local NDIS Social Workers

Our social workers also support NDIS participants who have complex needs, or who are at risk of harm. Through the Circle of Security Program we can assist caregivers with strategies to improve their skills and overcome barriers.

We can also connect you with support services and provide advice and guidance on a range of NDIS-related matters. Available state-wide in Queensland and in North Brisbane, South Brisbane, Logan, Gold Coast, Lockyer Valley and Toowoomba.

Social Workers Supporting Children

Our social work services also assist in a legal context. We undertake interviews and assessments for the Queensland Children’s Court and Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia which allow judgements to be made on care arrangements for children. We also provide specialist reports for legal professionals where there may be a custody dispute.

In collaboration with our therapists, we also provide a capacity assessment that looks specifically at parenting ability and makes recommendations. We ensure that families are supported through this process and assist them with future training and support.

Social Workers Promoting Equal Access

Our social work services promote social justice for change. We advocate for equal access to education, employment, housing, healthcare, and other basic rights. We have extensive experience working with first nations people and people from culturally diverse backgrounds in ways that respect an individual’s rights, dignity and ability.
